Endometriosis Awareness Month

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Most people are not aware that physical therapy can help with this diagnosis. It’s estimated 47% of women have a pelvic floor disorder, including pelvic pain. And recent numbers indicate up to 80% of women with chronic pelvic pain have endometriosis.

Pelvic floor physical therapy focuses on pelvic floor muscle and the muscles commonly referred to as “the core” or the abdominals. Individuals with endometriosis often demonstrate adhesions or increased scarring of tissues in and around the pelvis and these areas can cause increased pain which will often cause muscle tightness and guarding. Pelvic floor physical therapy can help with this.

If you have pelvic pain that is interfering with your normal daily activities, consider seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist to determine if the pelvic floor muscles or abdominals are a contributing factor.

Don’t forget that endometriosis, like most medical conditions, affects different individuals differently. You’ll want to work with a professional that will develop a personalized treatment plan catering to your unique needs. Give us a call today to set up an evaluation with Emily Dutton, our very own Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist and get started on your journey to reduce pain, restore normal activity, and enhance overall well-being.
